If I must repeat again how much I adore Christopher Jak’s music, I totally will.
Jak is in my Top 5 artists of all time…and has written my favorite line, in any song, ever. He is an incredible, intuitive writer, and has a voice that will melt your heart like it’s made of butter. Seriously, LOVE THIS MAN’S MUSIC.
That’s why you should all go download The Folk EP, his latest release, FOR FREE. Go. Right now. It won’t be free forever and you really need to start listening to it immediately.
(I mean, seriously, you have to love an artist with a sense of humor…who tags their own music “sad bastard music”? … hilarious!)
Then, once you’ve fallen in love with him, go buy all his other music…start with The Leadfoot Lover EP, which came out last fall, then get the stunning masterpiece that is The New Nostalgia (the song “Something” is probably my all time favorite song – because it’s so honest and bold and smart), and then the brilliant Applause of the Rain.
Christopher Jak’s music will make your life better. I promise.
(Stay tuned for the “After 7 years of being a fan, Krissie finally meets Jak and sees him live” post that will follow next month….I’m sure there will be video!)
Just wanted to say thanks for the C. Jak tip. I live in Fort Collins and have loved the guy for years so I’m always up for his new stuff and didn’t know this was out. Wish he’d play out where he lives! (What’s your favorite line that you mentioned?)
I stumbled on your site googling C. Jak Leadfoot Lover lyrics which led me to your top 10. I know and love half of it which makes me want to try the half I don’t know. Thanks again. I’ve just glanced your site but it’s like a female version of me – music as life, Seth Godin blog, love writing and quotes Say Anything. Keep up the good work. I’ll be reading now.
Fred
Thanks for stopping in, Fred! Glad this led you to some C Jak music you didn’t know about yet! (And jeez, the Folk EP is good…I like it better than Leadfoot, but that’s because I like the sad bastard music!) Oh, and it looks like Jak is going to be starting to play out some more…I’ll forward you the e-mail he sent out with the Folk EP info…it talks about playing live. I’m actually going to see him live for the first time in less than two weeks…after being a fan for about 7 years! I’m so excited I might faint!
Just curious, though….what of the Top 10 didn’t you know?
Looking back at the list I guess it’s slightly less than half but, most importantly, I hadn’t heard of the top two so it goes without saying I need to give those a listen. Your ranking of Cory Chisel got me off the fence as I had heard “Born Again” and “Longer time at Sea” on XM but never downloaded the whole thing (until last night). Have “Zoe” by Shane Hines but never gave it much attention so he was off the radar. Have the rest. Looking forward to needtobreathe and Stephen Kellogg here next month. Huge SK fan but I’ve never seen needtobreathe live.
Great Jak line for sure (which is saying something as there are so many). Enjoy the show and cruise. I’m hoping we’ll see Jak outside somewhere here this summer.
Oh, goodness…you must, must, MUST go get Tim Brantley….like this second. He is AMAZING. And see him live if at all possible (although he’s a bit like Jak in his touring…these boys must be independently wealthy like the rest of us!).
Cory Chisel’s disc is incredible! Soulful, smoky…love, love, love it.
And Damion Suomi…He’s brilliant – incredibly intelligent, which always makes for interesting music. An awesome, passionate live performance…And super nice fella, to boot.
needtobreathe is also outstanding live. I’ve been lucky enough to watch them “grow up”…Their performances only get better and better! Enjoy that!
I shot you an e-mail this AM with Jak’s mailing list e-mail…hope you got it! 🙂
Oh, and I totally did not answer your question!
Favorite line, in any song, ever…is from “Something.” “All I want in life is just a color picture of beauty in a golden frame of mind…”
