New Year, New Mix

Hello, friends.

I know it’s been months since I’ve written. No excuses. I just haven’t felt like writing much lately. Work is kicking my butt and the last thing I want to do at night is come home and fire up the old computer. My company – where I have been for nearly 18 years – got sold and the merging of the two new companies isn’t the smoothest transition ever. It’s been stressful. And my Mom had to have some more treatment – cancer sucks, by the way – so I made a quick trip home to Jersey to be with her for awhile. (She’s doing okay…strongest person I know, my Mom.)

Honestly, you guys, I’ve been pretty blue. And tired.

But it’s not all gloom and doom. I haven’t been sitting around doing nothing. I closed out 2015 with a big milestone…seeing more than 100 live shows in a year (101, to be precise). Kind of a big deal for me – I’ve never done it before, and I’ve been keeping track of all the shows I’ve gone to since 2004. It was such a big deal that one of my sweet friends made me a trophy. I’m really proud of myself…I got outside of my box and saw a LOT of new music this year. Artists and bands I didn’t know. I found new loves. Oh, and Christopher Jak is BACK. Played a show in Charlotte. And is making a new record. So there’s that.

And of course, the Panthers are making history here in Charlotte. So that’s super exciting, especially for those of us who have cheered them on through a couple of really tough seasons.

In between all of this, I made the Winter Mix. But the notes, which are usually my favorite part, just weren’t coming easy to me. I guess the whole not feeling like writing thing has been sort of infecting all of my life. So I’ve been sitting on it for awhile. But it’s a new year, and I’m trying to get re-inspired about writing.

So here it is. The Winter Mix. Winter’s definitely not my favorite season, but I like this mix a lot. Hope you will, too.

Grab the notes and the label here.

Lots of love,

Krissie

A Cure for the End of Summer Blues: The 2015 Fall Mix

I don’t know about you guys, but even though we have the day off, Labor Day is always a big bummer for me. Not only do I have a case of the Sunday-night blues on Monday, also the unofficial end to summer… and we all know that I’m a summer girl. So, this year, I decided to make sure that I finished the Fall Mix in time to brighten up Labor Day. Because I can’t possibly the only one not looking forward to fall and time changes and cold weather. Right?

If you’re one of the folks that likes to read my ramblings about the songs or wants to burn everything to a CD and listen, you can pick up the liner notes and the label here (and perhaps a bonus track that wasn’t on Spotify).

Happy listening, friends. Hope you’ve had a tremendous three-day weekend.

Happy Summer! Happy New Krissie Mix!

Hello, my loves. For those of you not in North Carolina where we have had 100 degree temperatures for the last four days straight, I have news for you: summer is here. I couldn’t be happier. Summer is the best season. Summer is my season.

Perhaps that’s why the Summer Mix always seems to come together so easily. It may have taken me forever to get this year’s Spring Mix done, but Summer was the exact opposite. It just worked. Mixes are like that sometimes. Every once in awhile, there’s one where you feel like every song has it’s “fit” with the next. Heck, it’s 1:30 AM right now and I should be sleeping, but I was so darn excited about this Mix that I HAD to write this blog post. Slightly obsessive, yes, but a little endearing too, right?

Love your faces. Go get your happy on with this thing. Grab the notes (and possibly a missing track or two) here.

The 2015 Spring Mix (Otherwise Known As I’m Ashamed of Myself)

Has it seriously been more than four months since I made a blog post? A third of a year? Yes. I’m ashamed of myself… I’m busy as hell with the new job (did I mention I got a promotion?), but that’s no excuse for going MONTHS without posting.

Ugh. I’m tired. you guys. I need some down time.

The good news is, I have a new Mix for you. It’s longer than usual…since I have gone all digital, I decided to hell with length, and just did whatever felt right. This feels right. 27 songs – 3 of which are not available on Spotify (but you can probably find a bonus if you look hard enough). You can get the liner notes here. The best notes I’ve written in awhile, I think – because I didn’t have to limit myself to two pages!

So have a listen. Do me a favor and follow the playlist on Spotify. Trying to figure out how many listeners I’ve lost since going to Spotify. And as always, let me know what you think – what your favorites are, what you don’t like, etc. That’s my favorite part.

As always, please support these artists. I’ve included links to their web pages in my notes. Buy their music. Go see a live show. Buy some merch. Invest in vinyl. You know the drill.

Smooches. Love you all.

The 2014 Fall Krissie Mix – Now Available for Your Ears

For more than 10 years now, each season I make a mix CD of new music that I’m listening to and share it with a bunch of friends. A physical CD 4 times a year. That was manageable when it was 10 friends or so. But the list has grown over the years and it’s becoming a bit unwieldy. So, the time has come to go digital. Although there are likely to be some limitations, especially with “new” bands that don’t have a lot of their music out there yet, Spotify seems the most reasonable solution.

So, without further adieu, here’s the 2014 Fall Mix. If you’re a long time Krissie Mixer and want the CD label and liner notes, you can download those here.
